Basic Info
Name:Edward Elric
Bio
Name: Edward Elric
Age: 16
Gender: male

Background: (WARNING! Spoilers for manga)

Edward was born in 1898 to a small family in Resembool. His father was an alchemist, so he himself grew interested in alchemy too. A year later he got a little brother, Alphonse. His mother Trisha Elric was a really sweet and kind person, but he has only a little memory concerning his father, Hohenheim, who had left their family when Ed was still very young. Most of those memories was seeing him alone in his room working.

When Edward was in the age of 10 his mother had died from illness. He and Al tried to bring her back with forbidden alchemy, but the attempt backfired resulting Ed losing his left leg and Al his whole body. To get back his little brother Ed sacrificed his right arm and binded Al's soul in a suit of armor. A few days later Ed asked his friend, Winry Rockbell, and her granny Pinako to make him auto-mail limbs so he could go and search for the legendary Philosopher's stone in order to regain what they had lost.

A year later after painful surgery and rehabiliation Edward is able to move around again and to gain the vast amount of information on alchemy available only to State Alchemists, decided to take the State Alchemist exams. After he passed - gaining the title of the child prodigy, being the youngest State Alchemist ever in history (12 years old) - he went back to Resembool and burned their home down so they couldn't look back.

During their long journey they heard about Shou Tucker the "Sewing-life Alchemist", who had created a chimera that could talk, but which had died soon after. Ed and Al were allowed to examine his research. One day when Shou had made a new talking chimera, Ed realized he had used his daughter and a dog to create it. Ed completely lost his head when Tucker said the two of them were alike and beat him sensless. That day Shou got arrested. This was when Scar stepped in the picture. He killed Tucker and the chimera mersilessly, saying that "alchemists who had strayed from the path of god must die". Ed was angry at himself for not being able to save even one little girl...

Scar has made a few failed attempts to kill Ed when their paths have crossed. This has been a problem to the mysterious Homunculi - artifical humen - who claim Ed to be their precious "human sacrife". After deciphering Dr. Tim Marcoh's documents, Ed and Al found out that the main ingredient to make a Philosopher's stone is a living human being. Their investigating in the 5th laboratory resulted in Ed's auto-mail arm being broken and Winry had to come and fix it.

After many events with their sensei in Dublith, like Al been kidnapped and reclaimed, the young alchemists went to Rush Valley where they found a boy of Ed's age lying unconscious. They found out that the boy was Ling, the prince of Xing who had come to Amestris in search of the Philosopher's stone to gain immortality. After hearing Ed was a State Alchemist, Ling and his servants follow him to Central.

Later when Ed was visiting in Resembool, he met his father Hohenheim. Hohenheim didn't stay for long, and left Ed with a bunch of questions. With Pinako's help he dug up the creature he and Al had created when trying to bring back their mom, and found out that it wasn't their mother at all, but a complete stranger. He got more confident in his goal to get Al's body back and returned to Central.

Personality:

Ed's strong personality is revealed most when others make jokes about his height. He doesn't tolerate phrases such as "pipsqueak", "half-pint", "bean sprout", "short stuff", and he becomes so enraged by such quips that he usually screams back with a highly exaggerated insult that is nowhere near the scale of the original remark. He has a really short temper and because of that he often acts on a whim. His father said he's exactly like him when he was his age...

When Ed is not out on a mission for the Philosopher's Stone or just an odd job for Roy Mustang, he is a kind, laidback person. However, regardless of whether or not he is on the job, Ed can hold a grudge for an eternity, and will go to extreme lengths to get an apology. Ed is extremely idealistic - almost to a fault - and strongly believes in the theory of "Equivalent Exchange". He regards religion and superstition cynically, instead believing that alchemy and science are the true saviors of humanity.

Ed is really intelligent and also able to think quickly, even in desperate situations. These qualities, combined with his alchemical powers, and his incredible physical strength make him a formidable fighter. He is ambidextrous, but usually uses his left hand for writing. This is because it is difficult writing with his auto-mail hand.

Edward, despite his occasional bouts of immaturity, is a selfless boy and instead of returning his own arm and leg, he focuses entirely on Al's suffering. He despises authority and helps people the best he can.
